The isolated DC / DC converter R3 series offers a wide input range of 2: 1 or 4: 1 and is available with powers from 3W to 200W. It offers solutions for 5 challenges that regularly come up in power design.
Industrial electronics sometimes require a very small load. In order to still work within the specifications of the DC / DC converter, a so-called ‘dummy load’ is used that causes a temperature rise.
Solution: With variable frequency technology, the R3 series improves efficiency at low load and eliminates the need for a minimal load. At a low load of 5 to 40%, the converters achieve an efficiency of + 78% and at no load, they have a power consumption of 0.12W. As a result, the converters save energy and minimize the temperature rise.
Most system boot errors are related to the long boot time of the modular power supply. The load can be damaged by the surge voltage during start-up.
Solution: The start-up time of the R3 series has been reduced from 200ms to 20ms and has no overshoot voltage. This prevents system failures caused by a long start-up time, ensures system stability and protects the load from damage.
